Futurepast Seminar Added to Moscow
World Environment Day 1998 Schedule

ARLINGTON, Va., May 1998--The organizing committee for World Environment Day 1998, to be held in Moscow, Russia, has announced a scientific program and exhibition. Futurepast, in cooperation with the nongovernmental Ecological V. I. Vernadsky Foundation has organized one seminar in conjunction with the week-long event.

Futurepast's John Shideler will chair a session on strategies for implementing ISO-based environmental management systems in Russia. Members of the panel include Thomas C. Jorling, Vice President for Environmental Affairs at International Paper, and members of the Russian business, academic, and government circles who are seeking to assist Russian organizations register to the ISO 14001 international standard.

The seminar will be held June 4 at 10 a.m. at the Russian Federation Civil Service Academy (Prospect Vernadskogo at Ulitsa Pokrishkina, Metro Yugo-Zapadnaya). Access is through the main academy entrance.

The seminar supplements a schedule of seminars and an international exhibition organized by World Environment Day's Russian host organizations. The theme of the week-long event is PEOPLE, CITY AND ENVIRONMENT

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 and is commemorated under aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) each year on 5 June. The exhibition is one of the main activities of the World Environment Day 1998 and will be held in Moscow 3-8 June by the UNEP Resolution and a proposal of the Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov submitted with the Government of Russia.

    EXHIBITION SCOPE

    Companies and organizations are invited to present their achievements in the field of advanced environmental technologies. Exhibitors will be given standard transforming moduluses for placing their displays.

    The Organizing Committee will officially accredit representatives of companies and organizations, specialists, scientists, businessmen and other interested persons intending to apply environmental and resource saving technologies and developments.

    The Commercial Centre will be open to the participants of the exhibition. The Information Centre will provide the possibilities for distributing materials prepared by participants. A Press-Centre will be organized for representatives of the mass media. Participants will be able to take part in a tourist and culture programme.

    There is no scientific programme fee for the exhibitors and accredited organizations and companies.

    Information on each exhibitor and accredited participant will be published in an official exhibition catalogue (600 marks).

    Participants of the exhibition will receive the necessary amount of passes, five invitations and one copy of the official catalogue.
